This lady comes in today and wanted some cash. Over a certain amount we ask for ID. After fussing and huffing about it, she flashes me her ID through a mesh case. I start copying it down only to find that it had expired January 08!! OVER a year ago. This, of course, makes the ID invalid, so I told her this and she continued to get more heated.
Lady: "Why do you need my id?? Do you not think this is me or my name?? This IS my account!"
Me: "Ma'am I just need a valid ID for this transaction. Do you have a valid one that is not expired or a passport etc?"
Lady: "OH well the renewal form is on the back!"
Of course, there are no renewal forms but I sit there patiently waiting for her to dig in her wallet, pull out the expired ID, only to find that (surprise!) there is no renewal form.
Lady: "Oh I can't find it! It must be at home!" (Sits there and stares at me, expecting me to just say "Ok! Forget I even brought it up!")
Me: "Ok, well for this amount I need a valid ID."
More fussing, so I call my manager over. When the customer hears me calling management over she lets out a disgruntled HUFF and says "Oh GEEZ" rolling her eyes as much as she possibly could.
My manager comes over, I explain what has been going on, and my manager tells the customer again that we need a valid ID.
Lady: "Oh this is ridiculous! I do this all the time at other branches and there is never an issue! Why do you need my ID? Im obviously me and this is obviously my account!"
[No, that is not OBVIOUSLY her and that does noT mean that this is OBVIOUSLY her account, mind you.]
Finally, my manager agrees to give her a lesser amount as an exception. But she continues to be unsatisfied, thinking that if she yells loud enough we'll just give in and give her what she wants.
Lady: "And WHY did you fill out the withdraw slip for me?? I ALWAYS do it myself at other banks!!"
Me: "Ma'am, I did it for you as a convenience, so you wouldn't have to do it and save some time."
Lady: "Well that's just ridiculous!" blah blah blah fuss fuss fuss
All this is making me suspicious. What is her issue??
I dont understand this at all. Every single other person I have helped always appreciates when I fill out the slip for them, for most customers don't know how to fill it out and it takes longer, so its easier if I just do it and they just look it over and sign. The only reason I can think as to why she got mad at me for filling it out for her was that maybe she thought that since she knew the account number and information, I wouldn't ID her. Because only the real you knows your information, right? [Wrong] Um, Identity theft, hello . . .
So finally we fix the transaction, she takes and walks off to her husband starting to complain to him. I look away for a second to breathe and then look back at my window only to find that she left a $100 bill. Unhappy that I have to deal with her again, I say
"Ma'am? You left this."
She flips around with the look of death and lasers shooting out of her eyes aimed at me, and then storms over, grabs her money and finally leaves. Who knows what would have happened had she left it and gotten home to find she was short. Probably exploded.
I don't know why people get so sketchy about their ID's! Its for THEIR safety! For THEIR protection! We are protecting you and keeping your money safe, that's why you trust us with it. So relax. And don't get fussy when you're at the bank and they ID you. It will be much appreciated. <3
